Prayer: Bonsai of the Soul

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

When a gardener trains a bonsai tree or other plant, they first determine the way in which they want the plant to grow. They train the branches accordingly, and then must be patient, waiting for the plant to grow into place at it’s own organic rate. Think also of the gardener who landscapes his garden perfectly toward his vision, yet must wait for the seeds of flowers to fill it in and make it real.
The same is true with our spirit. Our spirit is constantly expanding and growing in time. When we send out a prayer, we are programming directions for the continuing growth of our heart and soul. Our unconscious mind gets to work while we live out our daily lives. It looks for clues, hints and insights that we may not see; it helps to guide us into situations that may aid the process; and, it pushes through blocks within us in order to manifest our wishes for growth. The results will not be immediate, or exactly how we anticipate, but surely we will be liberating ourselves toward that which we desire. The soul reaches; it seeks, and we may train these branches in a direction of our choosing, letting the soul, then, work it’s magic in creating our futures.
Prayers that ask for insight, understanding, access, consciousness expansion, spiritual enlightenment, creative potential and personal enhancement are all of the highest order, as the keys to these doors are held within. If truly “The Kingdom” as we have come to perceive it is within our reaches, just beyond our own blocking perceptions, then prayer is a useful tool for finding it. Our creativity comes into play in the way that we ask for it, phrase it, and perceive it. We should have no reservations in asking for the deepest of spiritual transformations, the brightest infusion of light, and the fullest manifestations of our spirits here on Earth. Envision… the next step awaits, within your heart’s imagination.

May you reap everything that you sow, and may all your prayers be answered.

Anchors… away!

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

What can keep us from being our true, inner selves?  Everything, man!  Fucking everything…  Fear and insecurity, which closes down our inner light, can grab a ride on any circumstance that comes into our lives, giving us something to use against our free expression of creativity and light.
We are caterpillars, awaiting the removal of our cocoons, that we may take flight as liberated creatures of spirit.  This truth is not only a hope; it is a reality toward which we all deserve to strive.  It is not a duty to demand of ourselves, or a far-out concept from which to distance.  It is something we all “get,” which resonates with truth and hope.  This hope is a gift that we can offer ourselves: faith that a type of “Kingdom” awaits us, here, now, if we can summon the courage and freedom to engage it.
Our grip on this world is so fucking tight…  Mankind’s communal experience is like a massive waterway, in which currents of fear, insecurity and anxiety can powerfully carry us away from peaceful waters.  At times, when there is an energy shift, I find it downright terrifying…  I am swept up, trying to get above water.  I may want to go backwards to a moment of clarity, or forwards into something better.  Instead of allowing the fear to simply pass within me for the time being, ungrounded, I can harness it, and seek to grab onto some issue with it, actually anchoring myself right in the current that feels so bad!  I become aware that I am enmeshed once again in a painful game of imprisonment with the outside world.
These “energy shifts” present a major challenge.  They may occur from the outside, like the way the climate changes to a new pressure and precipitation.  Or, they may be the result of internal triggers that stir old emotions, overpowering our bearings.  In any case, a sensitized individual may find themselves completely thrown off course, and in the worst case, bound once again within a dark space.  This dark space usually feels especially bad if we are returning there after feeling free and weightless, and it seems like a step backwards.  It can feel like eternal damnation, and there is no wonder that the Hell concept was created to explain this very real type of fear-based and pain-based experience.  In fact, eternal damnation is living as a prisoner here on Earth, aware of a Kingdom of light, a free soul expression, yet unable to reach it from the depths below.
How the fuck, then, do we pull ourselves out of such a desperate experience?  The Kingdom does take residency on Earth- within each of our physical bodies.  It is a feeling.  The spirit seeks to blossom, and allow energy shifts to simply pass through, like water through the riverbed.  When we cling to issues that allow fear and anxiety to ruminate, we anchor ourselves in rough waters, and can unwittingly remain there.
What issues bear upon our hearts today?  They are not true issues, they are only illusory concepts which serve to dampen our light.  Solving them as problems only comes when we are unattached from them.  Seeing them as tools we use against ourselves is the first step toward removing them, and placing them elsewhere.  We take care of our delicate souls by protecting a sanctuary where this inner light may radiate outward… even if only as far as the ice cream parlor on the corner, which now awaits me.
These issues, and the fear they hold, are not the true us.  We deserve better.  By letting go of who we are trying to be, these pieces will also fall off and drift away…
Knowledge speaks: our light is ever-resent, and never truly gone.  The issues we cling to in fear do not truly fit us, and it’s why the anxiety can feel so tormenting.  It is not us.  It is not a right fit.  And only the true us will fit this new world we seek to create for ourselves.  The old shell-self of fear, pleasing others, and a fractured person that is not whole cannot abide here.  Do not demand it of yourself.  Give yourself permission to begin to expand in light, from the heart, for no one other than yourself.  If we each free up, the massive river current of humanity can flow forward, and know no limits.  Instinct will guide us there.

Creators vs. Consumers

Sunday, April 5th, 2009

In today’s consumer world, the promise of spiritual growth & inner harmony is pre-packaged and readily available to anyone. It is easy to forget that this pathway can only be found within. It is the result of tuning into our own unique core and remaining there with stillness. The voices of spiritual leaders may assist in guiding us there, but it is ultimately a place that only we can find and inhabit. Living in this place generates in us it’s own language that distinguishes our essence from anyone else’s.

When we act as consumers, we seek this language of knowledge as a product that another has created. Acting out of fear, we run from ourselves and prefer to be spoon-fed teachings by someone who feels & lives on our behalf. But true feeling is a product that only we can create for ourselves.

As creators, we must accept responsibility for developing our own VISION of self and sanctuary. We must be brave to separate from all the language of others, look within, be alone. We must also refuse to carry and spoon-feed other consumers who cling & insist on doubting their own inner source. Separating from them with compassion will encourage them to look within, as well.

Once our unique experience is more fully realized, it will float it’s own language out that we may speak as true words of our own unique soul. Then, we may partake again as consumers, simultaneously, exchanging ideas instead of relying upon them, and receiving INSPIRATION in the same way that we may now offer it.

Knowing our unique visions, as people, as artists, is the first step in truly being present, with love, here on Earth.

The fractured mind

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

When one is disconnected from physical reality, it can sometimes frighten people within the collective society.  Think, for example, of how someone with a loose grip on reality, appearing to be on drugs in public, may alarm the group.

This is because the public is uncertain whether basic social tenets will be observed by this individual.  Specifically where this individual’s mind exists is not important: simply suffice it to say that their outlook is fractured, or separated from the agreed-upon norms.  They could be aware of another reality, or be viewing this reality within a larger context of possibilities.  Or, they may be ill.  The individual’s psyche may have been cast out into an uncharted, unboundaried domain of sanity, leaving him or her unstable.

In any case, it is this question of whether the individual will observe the codes of society, upon which we have agreed, that the group may question when they encounter this individual.  This can be interpreted as dangerous or frightening.  Will this person respect my life, my physical well-being- will they hurt me?  Does the ‘eerie’ hold of another reality upon this person trump the rules of this domain?  Will this motherfucker kill my ass, right here on the goddamned subway platform?  I have definitely wondered sometimes…

But what about ourselves, the pioneers of consciousness and spirit, as we maintain conscious existence within this reality and others simultaneously?  Some visions of reality we inhabit may seem very contrary to social norms and expectations.
As we venture into other realities, seeking to pioneer and incorporate new vision here, it is in an effort to illuminate and broaden the spectrum of conscious experience.  It must be done with compassion and understanding of the beliefs and limitations of others, even if we choose not to observe their limitations within our own conceptual experiences.

“To help, or at least to do no harm”  - Hippocrates

Beyond this, we must abandon all fear and shame.  We must not let our own inhibitions impede upon the progress of consciosness, spirit, or art.  Love the land that feeds, and then break all restrictive bounds upon exploration.

Where desire is strong

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Once the spirit is fully seated within the body, appropriately, what motivates one to act outwardly?  Desire feels very basic- water, food, sex, maybe to lie down…

I am waiting to see what desire says to me, when I reach the place in time where desire is strong…

The citizen who must be Un-Pried

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

There lives a community within a spacious brain… The inside edges of this brain are made of black latex, like an inflated balloon.

A community member manages to use brute force to press upon a portion of the balloon, and expand a corner, despite the fact that no new air has been injected within.  This person has created new space within the community brain.

The individual occupies this new space, and clings to it, turning away from the community.  At a certain point, the community notices the individual clinging, with panicked ferocity, to this expanded portion of latex-brain-wall.  They must be taken down, and socially re-initiated.

It is a privelege to do expansive work.  And yet, new-found psychic space can consume a person if they insist upon remaining there forever.  Let us un-pry the community member…  if only for a moment… dinner, perhaps.

I live within my own vision.  And it is beautiful.

… the spirit from the body. How many have died trying to do that?  To attain freedom by extracting the spirit from the body’s grip?  (we miss you, pioneers!- Janis Joplin & John Belushi)

Body and spirit are two different elements. The body is the grounded hearth in which the flame may sit.

The body must be soothed into a slow release of tension so that the two, body and spirit, can co-exist: not entangled, but separate, in relationship to one another.  Two paralell planes in space: two strands of the DNA which coil around each other, but do not touch.  The spirit rises ever-higher into a shape-shifting body all it’s own which can be trained for maximum expression of the individual.  The two components, body and spirit, negotiate their expression.  The two may work in tandem, pushing and pulling, navigating around, through and for one another in space.

All ye talented ones…

Gather ye all, who seek to create…

It is a better self we seek, and when we create it, we shall have a better world.

Give the human race space enough to believe; in themselves!! And, then, we will be able to believe in a better world, and our souls shall pass through the gate of evolution.
For evolution is a gate through which we pass into future thinking, future feeling; into the future of life itself, and what we experience in it.

You have the opportunity to give yourself the greatest gift anyone could give another: life itself.  Now, what will we make of it?

This here ends the passage, xoxo, gabe
